Clearing or Apply 2012 ?

Asked by , Edited by Alison Patterson [ Admin ]

Hello! My firm university Loughborough accepted me though my marks were lower than they asked. I was sure that I won’t get enough so I went to my insurance university Strathclyde. Now I don’t want to go to Loughborough because I already settled down in Glasgow. Strathclyde won’t give me place even I apply through clearing. What should I do? Reapply for 2012 entry and take a gap year or gor through clearing?

If you really don’t want to go to Loughborough, then you can either ask to be released into Clearing and seek a place elsewhere (though it is now very late for any high ranking university) or withdraw completely and apply again next year. The latter, of course, means higher fees (unless you can qualify as a Scot at a Scottish university).

UCAS rules are very straightforward.  You entered into an agreement with Loughborough and Strathclyde.  As long as Loughborough offers you a place you are obliged to accept it.  Strathclyde has no obligation to you because your CF university has accepted you.
You would be well advised to go to Loughborough.  It is your guaranteed place.  If you withdraw now and re-apply in 2012 you will be competing with the next year of applicants. Your chances are uncertain.
Speak to UCAS and perhaps Strathclyde by phone if you want to pursue Strathclyde.
