Should I just apply and hope for the best?

Asked by [ Admin ]

I completed my A levels last year and am now on a gap year. I would like to apply for an art history course starting next year however my grades are CCC and the course requirement is BBC.

I have friends on the same course this year and it has been very undersubscribed so there was room for those with slightly lower grades, however i am aware that this may not be the case for next years course.

My question is: should I ring the university and enquire about the course and if it would be worth me applying, or should I just apply and hope for the best? Hopefully you can give me a bit of guidence here as i have no idea what to do!

It sounds as though you have one course at one institution in mind.

There is no harm in phoning to speak to the admissions tutor about your circumstances.  However, you will have to put in a UCAS form in order to be admitted.  You will have five choices so you should explore other courses apart from the one you have set your heart on.  The deadline date is in January.  Please check the UCAS website.

Go to the UCAS Course Search facility at

Competition for places this year is greater than previous years.
