We adjust student satisfaction scores for subject mix because they are known to vary according to subject and hence a university’s score can be higher or lower solely because of the subjects they offer rather than any difference in how they treat students. We do this by looking at what outcome would be expected given the subjects a university has and compare this with the actual outcome.
