Trying to work out the total cost of Uni

Asked by [ Admin ]

Your site is really thorough and full of very interesting information. It may be that I’ve simply missed what I’m looking for!

I’m trying to get feel for the total cost of my twin daughters starting uni in 2012.

I (think) I understand the fee increase of up to 9000 p.a and the new arrangements re maintenance grants. But I can’t find any info' on typical hall residence, or rent, living costs etc to give me some idea of the total cost per annum of undergraduate study.

Does your site hold that type of data – or do you know where I might find it?

Fees for 2012 are not yet determined and there is unlikely to be any solid fees detail until July 2011. Check out:

As a guide, you should use university websites for indicative living costs in 2012. Our university profiles also feature a guide to accommodation costs – for example http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/single.htm?ipg=6485 [2]

The Government’s website is also very helpful regarding loans, bursaries and grants available. Unfortunately, nothing has been decided firmly at this stage for 2012-13. So, you should continue to keep up with all announcements.

I’ve just been looking at the Essex website – go to

http://www.essex.ac.uk/studentfinance/costofliving.aspx

Most university websites contain this sort of page and a budget calculator. They will also be quick to give information about 2012-3 so keep checking for updates.
